Dear Colleagues:
As we look with optimism toward better days for our industry and the overall global economy in 2010, it's not too soon to start thinking about the American Association of Port Authorities' 2010 schedule of seminars and workshops, as well as the issues of AAPA Seaports Magazine that will focus on reflecting the subject matter of three of those programs.
In putting together the 2010 editorial calendar, the esteemed AAPA Seaports Magazine Editorial Advisory Panel has chosen to continue the linking of magazine issue themes with key AAPA programming, just as this issue, themed "Bolstering supply chain security," draws heavily from the AAPA Port Security Seminar and Exhibition, held July 22-24, 2009, in Houston.
It's not surprising that there should be such a connection, as AAPA looks to address the topics of greatest interest to its members, be it through publications or seminars.
After publication of the 2010 AAPA Seaports of the Americas Directory in March, the year's publication series is slated to continue with:
- "Adapting infrastructure to new economic realities," the summer issue of AAPA Seaports Magazine, including coverage of the Shifting International Trade Routes Workshop, cosponsored by AAPA and the U.S. Maritime Administration, Jan. 26-27, in Tampa, Fla.;
- "'Green' programs enhancing environment and bottom lines," the fall edition, including coverage of the AAPA Harbors, Navigation and Environment Seminar and GreenPort Americas 2010, May 4-6, in Charleston, S.C.;
- "Beyond gates, guns and guards:The new age of seaport security," the magazine's winter 2010-11 issue, featuring coverage of the AAPA Port Security Seminar and Exposition, July 21-23, in New Orleans.
