Thirty-one ports earned accolades and three received an Overall Award\nof Communications Excellence trophy for submitting top-scoring entries in\nAAPA\u2019s 53rd annual Communications Awards Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American Association of\nPort Authorities (AAPA) has notified 31 of its 130-member seaports throughout\nthe Western Hemisphere that they\u2019ve earned one or more awards for exemplary\ncommunications projects and programs as part of the trade association\u2019s 53rd\nannual Communications Awards Program, which closed for entries on May 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recipients of the 2019\nOverall Award of Communications Excellence trophies \u2013 the top awards in AAPA\u2019s\nCommunications Awards Program \u2013 are: Port of San Diego (Category 3), Port of\nNew Orleans (Category 2) and Port Milwaukee (Category 1). Each of the three\nOverall winners represents a different category of port, based on the size of\nits public relations, advertising and marketing budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Communications Awards\nProgram judges told us that this year\u2019s entries set a new, higher standard of\nexcellence than ever before,\u201d said Kurt Nagle, AAPA\u2019s president and CEO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis competition helps our\nmember ports by rewarding strategic communications through peer-reviewed\nanalyses of their programs and projects, and by showcasing best practices and\nlessons learned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added: \u201cWhen port\nauthorities communicate strategically with their many audiences, including\ntheir communities, business leaders and policymakers, they\u2019re better able to\nshow their tremendous value as drivers of economic development, environmental\nenhancement and job creation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2019 AAPA Communications\nAwards Program utilized 32 professional public relations practitioners from the\nWashington, D.C. area who cumulatively spent 128 hours over two weeks judging\nthe 15 classifications of entries, ranging from advertisements, periodicals,\nvideos and websites, to social media and overall campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
