Take a peek here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aapa-ports.org\/empowering\/CareerCenter.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>www.aapa-ports.org\/empowering\/CareerCenter.aspx<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>AAPA Welcomes New Chairman and Slate of Directors<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"picture\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aapw01.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2022\/12\/034-02.jpg\" alt=\"sean strawbridge\"><figcaption><em>Sean Strawbridge<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sean Strawbridge, chief executive officer of the Port of Corpus Christi, was formally installed as AAPA\u2019s Chairman of the Board of Directors on October 17, during AAPA\u2019s Annual Convention and Expo. Strawbridge succeeds Mario Cordero, executive director of the Port of Long Beach, who served a two-year term beginning in September 2020. Griff Lynch, CEO of the Georgia Ports Authority, was appointed to fill the board seat and remaining term vacated by Strawbridge.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Danny Wan, executive director of the Port of Oakland, was elected as director for the U.S. South Pacific Ports Region. Directors re-elected for their regions include Chett Chiasson, executive director of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, U.S. Gulf Ports Region; Jonathan Daniels, executive director and CEO of Port Everglades, U.S. South Atlantic Ports Region; Paul Anderson, president and CEO of Port Tampa Bay, U.S. At-Large Director; and Sean Hanrahan, president and CEO of St. John\u2019s Port Authority, Ports of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Directors with another year to serve in their term include Lisa Lefeber, CEO and executive director of the Port of Everett, U.S. At-Large Director; Vanta Coda, CEO of the Ports of Indiana, U.S. Great Lakes Ports Region; Richard Hendrick, CEO of Albany Port District Commission, U.S. North Atlantic Ports Region; and Julianna Marler, CEO of the Port of Vancouver USA, U.S. North Pacific Ports Region.<\/p>\n<p>AAPA board members serve two-year, staggered terms according to the bylaws. Earlier this year, AAPA accepted nominations for positions on the board. For more about the election process, see the AAPA Bylaws, available on the AAPA website.<\/p>\n<h2>AAPA and Trade Currents Seek Input to Improve Port Data Reporting and Analysis<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"picture\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aapw01.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2022\/12\/034-03.jpg\" alt=\"trade currents\"><\/figure>\n<p>AAPA is initiating a unique partnership with Trade Currents (<a href=\"http:\/\/tradecurrents.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tradecurrents.com<\/a>), a research firm founded by internationally recognized economists and analysts, to improve the collection and reporting of critical port trade data. In the fall, AAPA distributed surveys to Western Hemisphere ports with the goal of capturing vital data that will supplement trade statistics from agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Census Bureau, Transport Canada, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and the World Bank. This research ultimately aims to elevate and customize support to serve the data analysis needs of AAPA\u2019s members, but also benefit the broader trade and logistics industry, research community, and private institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Together, AAPA and Trade Currents will gather and aggregate cargo throughput statistics \u2014 key economic indicators representing the entire port industry \u2014 which are the very basis of ports\u2019 contribution to their local regions, the broader trade and logistics industry, and the U.S. economy as a whole. Examples of port cargo statistics for this research include volumes for imports and exports of loaded and empty containers, refrigerated containers, cargo tonnage and value, and units carried in vehicle carriers.<\/p>\n<p>AAPA urges members to consider taking part in this vital research.
