PORTS + POLITICS: Mexico and Its Cruise Industry

The cruise industry in Mexico is weathering the coronavirus pandemic and putting plans in place to safely open up again once given the green light.

Mexico plays a key role, as this industry is one of the most dynamic activities in the world economy and its strong growth has provided us with important development, investment and employment opportunities
for port-cities where cruise ships call. Last year alone we received 9 million passengers with an economic impact of $625 million, and we have established ourselves as one of the main destinations for cruise
passengers.

Cruises are an expanding tourist phenomenon, and we benefit from physical and geographical characteristics that put us in an advantageous position within the international market. In addition, we have a wide range of beach destinations, natural resources, infrastructure, urban richness, archaeological wealth and other important tourist assets, which make Mexico especially attractive for cruise tourism and tourism generally.
